Fundraising

Deaf Action colleagues and supporters have just taken part in the Virtual Kiltwalk 2021. Our team walked, cycled, climbed a collective 514 miles – that’s the equivalent of travelling from Edinburgh to France!

Even better, we managed to raise a matched total of £16,662! This money will make an incredible difference, ensuring we can sustain and grow our services. Virtual events like Kiltwalk have made fundraising possible throughout the pandemic, and we were grateful for the opportunity to be involved.

Lucy Ritchie, our Community and Events Fundraiser, appreciated the virtual aspect of the event as people all round the country could get involved!

“Virtual fundraising allows anyone to take on any challenge, regardless of where they are in the country. It has allowed us to reach new audiences and helped us think outside the box in terms of fundraising opportunities and ideas.”

Our staff are located around Scotland and although many participated separately, we were all brought together in spirit, dedicated to raising funds and getting into the competitive spirit!

Angela McCormack, Senior Fundraiser said:

“Congratulations and a huge well done to all of our walkers and cyclists for completing their Virtual Kiltwalk to raise funds for Deaf Action. I am absolutely astounded that together we have raised nearly £17,000 and the total is still rising. Thank you so much to each and every one of you for your support.”

Thanks to your generosity, we have raised nearly £17,000!

To find out more about what motivated our staff to take part, we asked them to share their Kiltwalk stories.

Sophia Cummings – Community Care Assistant

Sophia and her team walked from South Queensferry all the way to Deaf Action head office in Albany Street. Born profoundly deaf into a 3rd generation deaf family, raising money to celebrate and support future deaf generations was a significant motivator.
