SQA Level 1 BSL – Intermediate 1 (SCQF level 4)
This course is designed for those who have completed the SQA Introduction to BSL course.
If you have not completed the Introduction course but do have experience of using BSL, you may be able to go straight in to Level 1. This would apply to CODAs (children of deaf* adults) or siblings / other family members of BSL users. In this circumstance, you will need to attend a skills test with one of our tutors to assess which level you are best suited to joining. The skills test is free of charge.

Minimum age: 16 years old
Time: 6pm start. End time either 8pm or 8.30pm depending which class you choose
Monday evening: 3rd February – 29th June 2020. 6pm-8pm
Wednesday evening: 5th February – 3rd June 2020. 6pm-8.30pm
The Level 1 course builds on what you learned in your Introduction to BSL course. You will cover similar topics but go in to more depth with the vocabulary and context. You will continue to develop your understanding of BSL grammar, syntax, non-manual features and your receptive skills.
At the end of this course you will be able to:
- Communicate using straightforward BSL
- Understand straightforward presentations in BSL
This course costs £350. For all applications, excluding work sponsored places; a non-refundable deposit of £50 must be received with the application in order to secure a place on the course, with the remaining balance due 1 week before course start date.
