Deaf Festival

Deaf Festival Coming to Deaf Action this August!

Here at Deaf Action we are very excited to open our doors this August to launch Scotland’s first ever Deaf Festival during the Edinburgh Fringe.

Located on Albany Street in the heart of the New Town, we will be offering three events spaces that are accessible to *deaf/ hard of hearing people.  Not only do we hope to have a great line up of performances, there will also be a social meeting space for *deaf people, interpreters, family and friends to come together from all over the world.

Philip Gerrard CEO at Deaf Action stated: ‘We are really excited to be hosting the first Deaf Festival as part of the Edinburgh Fringe this year. It can be very daunting for *deaf people to navigate their way around such a large international festival and find accessible performances as well as a place to meet. We are delighted to be collaborating with Heriot-Watt University in planning this exciting event, as second-year students are serving on deaf-led committees to organise events and ensure their accessibility’.

In order to make this event a success, we are looking for performers, interpreters, captioners, and volunteers. If you are a performer and would like to put on an accessible show or are interested in any of these roles, please contact festival@deafaction.org for more information.
