Customer Update: Coronavirus COVID-19

With Coronavirus COVID-19 spreading in the UK, we would like explain ways in which you can help minimise the risk of spread in the community.

What is COVID-19?

COVID-19 is a new illness that can affect your lungs and airways. It’s caused by a virus called coronavirus.

·     a cough

·     a high temperature

·     shortness of breath

But these symptoms do not necessarily mean you have the illness.

How can I avoid catching or spreading germs?

There are things you can do to help stop viruses like coronavirus spreading:

·     Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze

·     Put used tissues in the bin immediately

·     Wash your hands with soap and water often – use alcohol sanitiser gel if not available

·     Do not come into Deaf Action if you are feeling unwell and try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell

·     Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean

Who does it affect?

The virus can be especially dangerous in older people, patients with weakened immune systems, or those with long-term health conditions like cancer or diabetes.

When should I stay away from Deaf Action buildings and public places?

·     If you have been in close contact with someone with confirmed coronavirus

·     Travelled from an infected area in the last 14 days

·     If you have cough, high temperature or shortness of breath

What should I do if I have a fever, cough or difficulty breathing?

Call NHS 24’s 111 service or contact them via ContactSCOTLAND-BSL interpreting video relay service and then dial 0800 22 44 88.
