BSL (Scotland) Act 2015 Partnership

Deaf Action is part of the BSL (Scotland) Act 2015 Partnership, a consortium of organisations funded by the Scottish Government to support public bodies in fulfilling their obligations under the British Sign Language (Scotland) Act 2015. Within this, we have two specific strands that we deliver.

The Youth Participation Officer has a Scotland-wide remit and will visit schools and youth services which have deaf* children and young people aged between 10 to  18 years old. Workshops will be delivered covering topics such as identity, citizenship, accessibility; as well as educating them about the BSL (Scotland) Act 2015 and what their rights are as deaf young people. We also support the Youth National Advisory Group and their elected representatives in ensuring the voice of young deaf people are incorporated in work around the Act.

Deaf Action also provides British Sign Language (BSL) Awareness courses to public bodies and ensures the needs of people who have BSL as their first language are understood, recognised and incorporated appropriately into planning.
